GENERAL RECYCLING SPECIALIST

Job Title: General Recycling Specialist
Reports To: Management/Supervisors
Location: Merrillville, Indiana
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 – $17.50 per hour
Benefits: Paid time off, paid sick leave, and paid holidays
FLSA Status: Full-time, exempt

Responsibilities:

  • Identify scrap commodities and sorts material into designated recycling stream
  • Use yard operating equipment including fork lift, skid steer baler, shear, wire stripper, ECT
  • Inspect equipment prior to operation and fuel to ensure conformity to quality standards
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat
  • Sweep, mop, and dust as needed
  • Segregate, sort, and move materials to specified areas according to warehouse controls
  • Stage material for outbound movements
  • Assist retail customers with the offloading of material in yard
  • Maintain knowledge of quality standards, material grades, what material can/cannot be unloaded
  • Identify both ferrous and non-ferrous metals and sort various grades according to mill specifications
  • Clean and maintain work area for fire control and to eliminate trip/fall hazards
  • Compliance with safety standards, which include wearing all proper personal-protective equipment while working or while in the yard
  • General duties involving physical handling of materials, supplies, ECT
  • Perform additional responsibilities as they are assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 2+ years of warehouse experience
  • Process driven and detail oriented
  • Superior executive functioning skills
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of safety standards and adherence to current regulations
  • General knowledge of scrap metal manufacturing
  • Production and processing knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 50 pounds
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player dedicated to the company
  • Knowledge of scrap a plus
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
