Job Title: Non-Ferrous Scale Operator
Reports To: Yard Manager
Location: Merrillville, Indiana
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.50 – $17.50
FLSA Status: Full-time
Overview:
The non-ferrous scale operator should be an individual with strong scrap metal literacy and knowledge of the scrap metal recycling industry. The candidate needs to be self-motivated, customer service driven, and have strong verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist customers
- Assist customers with the handling of their scrap material
- Lift scrap material that could exceed 50 pounds or more
- Purchase scrap material from retail customers, identify, and grade material according to industry specifications
- Verify and weigh scrap material and assist with data entry
- Direct inbound material to designated recycling streams and processing stations
- Input transaction computer entries
- Adhere to all safety requirements
- Operate material handling equipment as needed
Qualifications:
- Team-first mindset
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Computer competency
- Weights and measures background a plus
- Basic mathematical skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Strong communication skills
- Professional conduct
- Multi tasker
- Previous experience in the metals recycling industry
- One year of experience in a similar position a plus
- Valid driver’s license
